Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are the eccentric Batman and Robin of today's Hollywood. The release of their vampire comedy Dark Shadows marked it as the eighth time the duo has collaborated.

Tim Burton's visual flair and dark themes mix well with Depp's oddball characters and slurred-but-charming acting.

Here's a look back at the previous collaborations of this duo:

1.      Edward Scissorhands (1990)

This romantic fantasy movie set the standard of what their future collaborations would look like. Depp played an unfinished artificial man with scissor for his hands who fell in love with his adoptive parents' daughter.

The movie reinforced Burton's gothic flair and themes while it became one of Depp's iconic roles. The movie was met with both critical and commercial success.

2.      Ed Wood (1994)

Depp described this film as Burton's personal favorite. This comedy-biopic cast Depp as the cult filmmaker Ed Wood. The black-and-white motif evoked the film's dark themes lurking under the movie spotlights. The movie was met with overwhelming critical success.

3.      Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Playing as Ichabod Crane, Depp masterfully redefined the thriller-horror genre with his buddy Burton. The latter's genius permeated through the foggy scenes of this film, earning him critical and commercial success, not to mention pop culture infamy with the "headless horseman" character.

4.      Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

This critically and commercially successful movie was the duo's dark-chocolatey reinterpretation of this Roald Dahl's children's story classic. Depp was cast as the goofy Willy Wonka, the owner of the largest chocolate factory in the world.

5.      Corpse Bride (2005)

Willy Wonka was succeeded by this Victorian-inspired animated film, with Depp lending his voice to the character Victor. Also starring was Tim Burton's wife, Helena Bonham Carter, as the titular bride, Emily.

6.      Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

Depp wowed everyone with his acting versatility when he sang in this dark fantasy musical about a serial killer barber. This movie won Depp his second Golden Globe award as Best Actor in a Musical.

7.      Alice in Wonderland (2010)

In this retelling of the world's famous dark fairy tale, Depp played as the Mad Hatter alongside Australian talent Mia Wasikowska. The film earned major awards in the 83rd Academy Awards.
