American Idol Season 11: Top 7 Contestants Left, 3 Never Been in the Bottom, 3 Most Likely Grand Finals Pairs Show
American Idol will award its new title holder in less than two months. With seven contestants remaining, and only one girl who has not been in the bottom three, now is the time to make forecasts just for fun. Who will America see in Season 11 grand finals?
Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet
Idol judge Jennifer Lopez thought last week it would not be surprising to see them in the finals after their fantastic '80s duet last week.
Both Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet have been almost consistently favored by the judges, and even Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine had noted that Joshua Ledet came out the strongest when Jessica seemed to have let her guard down by choosing a song which did not fully showcase her power vocals.
Both known for reaching crazy high notes while staying faithful to the song's melody, the judges clearly see a bright future for these two in the Idol competition. (Joshua is known to have failed at least once, and this is when he was carried away by mixed emotions while singing Mariah Carey's One Sweet Day two weeks ago.)
Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez
Phillip Phillips are supported by different groups: guys who dig guitars and Dave Matthews band, Heejun Han's former voters, and guys and girls who like rock stars with a tad of rebel flavor. (Phillip has said in many occasions that he is not in the competition to follow what everything says; he is on Idol for his music and his individuality, he says.)
On the other hand, Jessica has a flock of teen girls and Whitney Houston fans behind her.
Just as Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery wound up in the final two last season, Phillip and Jessica could get there, too, as their respective voter demographics -- if there is enough for each indeed -- will inevitably make that happen.
Phillip Phillips and Colton Dixon
If American Idol voters are mostly tween girls, they would be split between these two boys who have not seen the dark gray limbo of the bottom three.
Some like the punk Christian, others are into the laid back rock star with a pseudo-rebel vibe. Phillip has an edge over Colton for being featured in the premiere episode of this season, while Colton is known for being the guy who was eliminated in Las Vegas last year, and getting into the competition this year while skipping the long queues (thanks to his sister who seem to have schemed to get him there). The rest, any way, was up to Colton. And he kept dishing out decent performances week after week, soaring high during the Bill Joel week with Piano Man.
Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet
There is more to their ridiculous vocal ranges that is making the viewers vote for them. Young Jessica Sanchez is an excellent poster girl for a young teen girl's dream to become a star, while gospel singer Joshua Ledet's melody is waking up the spiritual side of an audience. It must be noted, however, that Jessica has never been in the bottom three, while Joshua has at least once landed in the dreaded list.
Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez
With young girls, rockstar wannabes, and former voters of his friend Heejun Han rallying behind him, Phillip Phillips is the best match to Jessica Sanchez for the Season 11 grand finals.
Both of these contestants have never been in the bottom three, and the wide difference between their music and performance choices would surely be enjoyable to watch.
Elise Testone and Phillip Phillips
This is a cheat. The writer's favorite pair is inserted in the slideshow, but previous results have shown that Elise Testone may not be in a path towards the grand finals. While Phillip Phillips is praised for his consistently strong performances, Elise is criticized for choosing the wrong song, not getting the song right, or not delivering a solid number. She kept coming back to the bottom three, which is not a good sign towards a slot in the grand finals. At her best, however, Elise is a vocal force and presence to reckon with.
Phillip Phillips and Colton Dixon
If American Idol voters are mostly tween girls, they would be split between Phillip Phillips and Colton Dixon who have not seent the dark gray limbo of the bottom three. One is an outspoken semi-rebel indie rocker who transforms from a lukewarm shy guy to a blazing rock star when performing on stage, the other is a Christian punk who was seen crying buckets when his sister was eliminated during Hollywood week in one this season's early episodes. Whose mercury will rise higher in the end?
