NYC Easter Parade 2012: Bonnets, Bunnies and Eggs Take Over Fifth Avenue [PHOTOS]

Colorful bonnets, bunny ears and eggs graced the streets of New York City on Sunday, as the annual Easter Parade took over Fifth Avenue for a few hours.

From East 49th Street to East 57th Street, thousands showed up for the festivities, which is really an informal gathering of New Yorkers, tourists and street performers. (There were no floats, no commentators -- just people in their Easter best).

"The parade is Halloween for the head in a way, and it's a New York tradition. It shows you just how many creative and talented people are here in New York City, and I never miss it," Ken Petti of the Upper West Side told CBS 2 News on Sunday.

From carrot-themed headpieces to little pups donning Easter bunny ears, everyone got in on the fun.

The warm spring weather was also an added bonus -- temperatures in New York City reached a high of 66 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday, according to weather.com

Here are some highlights from New York City's annual Easter Parade.
