The Avenger's Movie 2012: Character Posters Revealed, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans Suit Up [PHOTOS]

The upcoming screen adaptation of Marvel's classic superhero squad, "The Avengers," is hitting theaters on May 4th. But for excited fans anticipating the film, a new gallery of character posters has just been released.

Six posters, each focusing on one heroic character, have just surfaced. One displays a close up of Captain America (Chris Evans) brandishing his shield, and the next shows Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character with guns in hand. We also see familiar faces such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

The film, packed with super-heroic action and adventure, was said to be an 'exhausting' endeavor.

"I want them to feel exhausting and fulfilled," director Joss Whedon said to MTV News, referring to how he wants the movie to be received.  "We really put the characters through it, and we want the audience to be with them every step of the way and come out going 'That was an extraordinary experience, and now I want to pay to see it again."

But the viewers aren't the only ones said to be worn out by "The Avengers."

"The most satisfying thing about 'The Avengers' is that soon I will finish it," the director added to MTV.

The comic-based movie picked up momentum after a trailer debuted during this year's Super Bowl, becoming one of the most talked about ads broadcast throughout the game.
