Olympique Lyonnais coach Remi Garde believes that Arsene Wenger could well be a possibility to take on the France job after the Euro 2012 tournament, with the Arsenal manager currently under fire yet again over the Gunners' up and down performances.

Wenger has long been considered a favourite to take over a national coaching position, and over 15 years at Arsenal the manager has taken the club to towering heights considering their limited budgets.

But fans have often clashed with Wenger's public belief that overpaying for players because of reputation or nationality goes against Arsenal's recruitment policy, and particularly after Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri left the side last summer, some supporters insisted that it was Wenger's time to go.

But Arsenal have stuck by their French manager, and have said that he has a long term agreement to stay at the Emirates. And though Wenger hasn't hinted at wanting to leave, if Laurent Blanc finishes his tenure with France after the Euros, Garde believes that he may be just the person to take over.

"Wenger as the new national team coach? I believe that position would suit him well,"  Garde told RMC.

"He knows European football very well, and also has good knowledge of world football and the French players because he follows the league closely. 

"He would definitely be an interesting option in case Blanc leaves his position. He is a very big name in the world of football."

French football has been in somewhat of a crisis over the last few years, with problems surrounding racism at the club, as well as players staging a mutiny under Blanc in the 2010 World Cup.

And even though Arsenal have publicly offered Wenger the possibility of lasting even longer as Gunners manager, the 62 year old could have his head turned if his home country made the call.

Wenger began his managerial career for French side Nancy-Lorraine in 1984, before moving onto Monaco then Nagoya Grampus Eight. He joined Arsenal in 1996, and has kept the club in contention for a Champions League place and won three titles with the club since.
