In Costa Rica, about two tons of cocaine worth over six million dollars on the "black market" have been seized.

While one of the three boats confiscated was holding 1,148 kilos of the drug, another 815 kilos were found on a beach in the Puntarenas province, the Security Ministry said.

Deputy Security Minister Celso Gamboa said in a press conference in San Jose that authorities have detained five people, of which three are Colombian nationals and two are Costa Ricans, who were aboard the two boats. Two smugglers managed to escape, the search for them continues.

This is the largest quantity of drugs seized in Costa Rican waters since 2006. Officials say the shipment probably originated on Colombia’s Pacific coast and was bound for Mexico.
