Scarlett Johansson is sick and tired of playing the sex symbol. But that does not mean fans will be seeing less of her perfectly angelic face.

"I think that as I get older, I'm now looking at roles that move away from that kind of ingenue mold and are more based on women that are experienced and have had life before the point you find them in. That's refreshing for me. It's nice to be able to kind of transition into that," tells Scarlett Johansson about her easy transition to more mature roles, saying she wants to portray characters with deep backgrounds, as reported by Huffington Post.

David Fincher recently revealed to Vogue that the "Avengers" star was seriously considered for the lead role in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," but was ultimately perceived as being too sexy. The role eventually went to Rooney Mara.

"I feel like for me, right now, I don't want to take on any roles that aren't challenging in some way. I never want to play something I've done before. I want to be able to just have everything be hard in some way. Otherwise, what's the point?" continued Johansson.

That may be a bit difficult to do however, since Johansson's full transcript is not an easy read.

Right now she's being pegged as a sci-fi bombshell with roles like Black Widow in "Iron Man 2," the upcoming "Avengers" movie and the Iron Man sequel, "Iron Man 3." She has also played a Tudor maiden in "The Other Boleyn Girl," a rich socialite with a clone in "The Island," an unfaithful wife in "Match Point," even a cartoon by voicing Mindy in the "Spongebob Squarepants" movie.

Her most recent  and upcoming movie is "We Bought A Zoo" alongside Matt Damon, directed by Cameron Crowe. but this isn't the first Crowe movie that gained her attention, since she has also auditioned for "Almost Famous."

Surely, ScarJo fans are thinking about what could have happened if Johansson had won the role of Penny Lane or better yet, Judy Shepherd in "Jumanji."
