Lisa D'Amato may have won "America's Next Top Model: All stars," but everyone is talking about Angelea Preston and wondering why the favorite-to-win was booted out of the competition at the eleventh hour.
Angelea Preston was dismissed as a contestant on America's Next Top Model: All stars, paving the way for Lisa D'Amato to claim the title.
Rumors have flooded social media outlets saying that Preston had initially won the competition, but when she revealed this on her Facebook account before the show was aired, it led to her disqualification.
According to People magazine, CW issued a statement explaining that information had been obtained about Preston after the final filming of the show, which led to her disqualification." As a result, new scenes were filmed to address this for the audience during the finale," the company said in a statement. Even "Top Model" judge Jay Manuel claims not to know the real reason of the eviction, he revealed in a Tweet.
D'Amato told Us Weekly that the rumors were absurd and elimination is a part of the competition. "Girls get eliminated each week. So it's part of the process. It's the nature of the beast. At the end of the day, at the end of the competition -- checkmate. I won," she said.
Despite Internet speculation that Preston would win, D'Amato told Us Weekly that she always knew in her heart that she would beat Preston and be named the winner.
"Tyra Banks said something to me that I'll never forget for the rest of my life," D'Amato said. "She told me in Greece, in panel, in front of everyone, that in all the years of 'America's Next Top Model,' in hearing all the stories from all the different girls all through the years, the one that stands out to her is from Cycle 5 when I told her the story of my life and my childhood. Out of all the girls' stories, mine was the one that resonated in her heart."
More rumors surfaced on Friday, saying the model would hold a press conference to explain the reason for her disqualification, but according to the Web site The IT Factor, the model has backed out after succumbing to pressure from the network.
Meanwhile, D'Amato's first-prize package included a spread in Vogue Italia, a $100,000 contract with Covergirl Cosmetics and a nation-wide Express advertising campaign.
Preston's most recent tweet was posted on Dec 7:
