Google Maps may not help you cut your tolls for now

04 February 2010 @ 09:36 am AEST

Google Map is a fantastic tool to help us navigate and find our way in a new or unfamiliar place. We can even get a rough idea of our travel route before going off on a vacation. This tool is absolutely free or charge and easily downloadable through Google. If you need to fetch a friend in an unfamiliar area, simply look up Google map and you will be on your way to finding the house very easily.

Nevertheless, all of us really want to save every cent wherever we can and on the roads, it is simply trying to avoid paying so many tolls. That is one feature that cannot really be trusted on Google Maps if you are looking to save as much money as you can on toll fees. The routes offered would not be the ones that would exactly help you save any money even if you select the option to skip toll roads. You still get the same result.

Dan Warne at APC reports that the option to skip toll roads seems to be completely non-functional in Melbourne, even though Google Maps can identify that individual roads do include a toll. A Google spokesperson has said the company is looking into the problem, but no timeline for a fix has been promised.

This highly sophisticated software, Google Maps could actually make billions of dollars instead of offering it just for free. Therefore, it is fair to allow the limited capacity with no complains. However, Google would have to rectify this problem soon as the maps integration is a vital selling point for Android phones which are really pricey and users would be expecting all functions to be fully operational.
