Dollar mostly up, gold falls in morning trading

LONDON - The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Friday morning. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.4020, down from $1.4313 late Thursday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

_88.94 Japanese yen, down from 89.42

_1.0998 Swiss francs, up 1.0754

_1.2316 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1997

The British pound was quoted at $1.4982, down from $1.5070.

Gold traded in London at $839.00 per troy ounce, down from US$855.25 late Thursday.
