PESHAWAR, Pakistan - An official says Pakistan has temporarily suspended oil tankers and trucks with sealed containers from using a key passage into Afghanistan--a move that could affect a critical supply route to U.S. and NATO troops.
Government official Bakhtiar Khan says the suspension at the Khyber Pass is due to security concerns. He says it will end "as soon as possible."
The move comes just days after a band of militants hijacked around a dozen trucks whose loads included Humvees headed to U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan.
The attack underscored the vulnerability of the supply line and the growing influence of Islamist extremists in Pakistan's northwest.
Barred vehicles were told to wait Sunday on a main road near Peshawar city.
