MADRID, Spain - Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero says Spain is setting up a 30 billion euros ($41 billion) fund to help the financial sector.
Speaking Tuesday, Zapatero said the fund could be extended to 50 billion euros ($68 billion) if necessary.
The Spanish premier also said Spain would increase its bank deposit guarantees to 100,000 euros ($136,460), double the minimum base set earlier by European Union finance ministers and five times the amount of the earlier EU minimum.
