Cleveland selects Andrew Wiggins with its 1st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft
Jun 26, 2014; Brooklyn, NY, USA; Andrew Wiggins (Kansas) shakes hands with NBA commissioner Adam Silver after being selected as the number one overall pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2014 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center.

The young guy many believe to be on the losing side of all the Kevin Love to Cleveland talks, appears to be happy in joining the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Andrew Wiggins, the 2014 number one overall draft pick, is the centerpiece of the transfer to the Timberwolves which is expected to be consummated by August 23rd. ESPN reports that while the high leaping athlete has been mum on all the trade talk, his former coach at Kansas, Bill Self, declared that he has recently talked to his ward and that Wiggins will be happy with the transfer to the Timberwolves.

''When all this trade stuff started, I talked to Andrew and Andrew told me, ''I hope I get traded,'' Self said. ''And I'm like, 'No you don't.' And he said, ''Coach, I do. It's better for me, knowing my personality and what I need to do, to go somewhere where I'm forced to be something as opposed to going in there where they're going to be patient with me and I'm going to be a piece.''

While Self thought that Wiggins had the best opportunity in Cleveland, with no pressure to immediately contribute and just doing the intangibles mostly as LeBron's shadow, he understood eventually the point of the promising rookie. His under the radar player likes low key status and would prefer to be patiently developed and given less expectations to win immediately, something the Timberwolves could provide.

Self expounded that the prospect of Wiggins pairing up with LeBron may have stunted his growth to be a franchise player and be one of the greats by being on his own. In Cleveland, he will be asked to be the Pippen to James' Jordan.

The Kansas coach believes that the high flying rookie would fit in with a young cast with the Wolves given his NBA ready defense which will be useful alongside a new athletic backcourt featuring him and number 13 pick and the best athlete of the draft, Zach LeVine. One can only imagine the two hop starters flanking the wings with a creative Ricky Rubio streaking down court for a fast break.

"I think he's handled everything great. He's excited," Self said. "I think the whole thing that's been blown out of proportion a bit is that he's been in limbo. He's known since the summer that he'd be traded. It's OK. In some ways he's looking forward to going to Minnesota."
