Amazon has recently unveiled its Fire Phone in an event in Seattle. Amazon Fire phone is a one-of-a-kind 3D handset that marks Amazon's foray into smartphone industry.
This handset features 4.7-inch LCD display with 1,280 x 720 screen resolution. Fire phone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and runs on a forked Android OS. The thickness and weight of the Amazon Fire phone are 8.9 mm and 160 g respectively.
According to Slash Gear, this phone sports glass exterior and rubber-like corners to stave off damages caused by accidental fall. The camera specification of this phone is quite unique with 13 MP rear-facing camera, f/2.0 wide aperture lens, LED flash and 2.1 MP front-facing camera unit with four "Dynamic Perspective" feature.
Amazon Fire Phone can be purchased at $199 (32 GB variant) and $299 (64 GB variant) under AT&T contract in the U.S. The shipment of this 3D smartphone is expected to begin on July 25. Also, Amazon is giving away free Amazon Prime service for 12 months with this phone, First Post said.
3D Dynamic Perspective
Amazon Fire phone uses four unique sensors in the front with "invisible infrared" LEDs to locate the face (head) and eyes. This new sensor has the capability to respond to the way a user holds, sees and moves the phone. Also, this mechanism offers single-handed navigation and gesture controls like automatic scrolling option, i.e. without having to touch the screen to scroll down. The sensors on the corners of the phone with the help of infrared LEDs can even work in a dark room, First Post noted.
Amazon Fire phone comes with a dedicated button that can identify things that a user sees onscreen and locate the same in the real world. This uses QR and bar codes, movies and music titles, among others to achieve the same. In a nutshell, Firefly is a way to scan, identify and locate things/products around by pointing a camera at an object/thing. Upon capturing the image of the product, Fire phone will find the product online and will show the user from where he/she can purchase the same. Firefly also has audio recognition capability.
Cloud Storage Perk
Amazon Fire phone comes with an unlimited cloud storage option for Amazon content tied to the Amazon account. This means users can store unlimited number of movies, music and photos, among others.
Killer 3D Gaming App Development Opportunity
According to Slash Gear, the first gaming app to debut with Amazon Fire Phone's unique Dynamic Perspective capabilities is the "To-Fu Fury." Also, app/game developers will use Dynamic Perspective APIs free of cost from Amazon, starting this summer.
Similar to Kindle Fire tablets, Mayday service in Amazon 3D smartphone will give 24/7, 365 days customer service/support via video chat. This service is quite refined to the level that customer care executives can access the device screen to assist the user virtually. Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, went on to say customer care executives will respond and assist with user requests and problems within 15 seconds of contacting them.
