Google Nexus 5 release date is one of the most anticipated smartphone launches this year.

IBTimes AU reported that search engine giant Google may apply its formula with the Nexus 7 tablet to the Nexus 5 and release a Nexus 4 2. However, this may not be the case as there are several reasons why Google may use the term Nexus 5 for its next smartphone.

First, the upcoming Nexus is the fifth generation of Nexus smartphones. Hence, the name Google Nexus 5.

Secondly, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 got its name because of its screen sizes. It is speculated that Google Nexus 5 will include a 5-inch screen display. Thus, the main reason why it will be named Google Nexus 5.

Another reason why Google Nexus 5 will get its name is because of the rumoured Android 5.0 dubbed as Key Lime Pie. Google recently released the 4.3 version of the Jelly Bean OS. However, many reports claimed that it will soon release the Android 5.0.

Lastly, it is the fifth year anniversary of Google's Android. To commemorate the celebration, Google will release a hardware device, Google Nexus 5.

Google Nexus 5 is expected to come with a 5-inch Full HD screen display; an eight-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz paired with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM; 13MP rear camera; 3300mAh battery capacity and the latest Android OS. The handset is rumoured to be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants and will support 4G/LTE connectivity, which was missing in the Nexus 4.

It is also unconfirmed which company Google will partner with to make the Google Nexus 5. It was first speculated that LG and Google will make the next Nexus smartphone, due to the immense success of LG Nexus 4. But other sources are giving a different speculation.

The latest reports claimed that Motorola is working on the Google Nexus 5. An insider tipped that Google Nexus 5 will happen later this year and Motorola is hired by Google to work on it. In his Google+ account, Taylor Wimderly, confirmed that Motorola is working on a Nexus smartphone.

However, Google has not confirmed yet the concrete Google Nexus 5 release date.
